1. The short version
- Choose Superwhisper if you want dictation that works offline, or keeps audio on your device.
- Choose Dropline if you want clean, ready-to-send text without setting up modes, and you don't want to pay while it's in Preview.
2. What Dropline types
| You say | Dropline types |
|---|---|
| "um, let's do tomorrow at three, no wait, four thirty" | Let's do tomorrow at 4:30 |
| In a doc"um so three things before Friday first ship the beta second update the docs and third tell the team" | Three things before Friday: 1. Ship the beta 2. Update the docs 3. Tell the team |
| "fifteen dollars a seat" | $15 a seat |
Dropline sees which app you're in. The same words come out relaxed in chat, punctuated in email, and as a list in a doc. In a terminal it's always one line; in a code editor only the fillers come out.

4. Where Dropline is different
No setup. There are no modes or prompts to configure. Hold the key, talk, and Dropline decides the layout from the app you're in.
Context, not just a word list. Your dictionary works the way you'd expect, and Dropline also reads the names and terms on your screen while you dictate. It learns the names it keeps seeing there and remembers what you've been working on recently, so a colleague's unusual name or a project codename comes out right without you typing it in first.
Mixed Chinese and English. English and Chinese can be mixed in the same sentence, and Dropline never translates what you said.
Edit by voice on the Mac. Select text, press left Option + left Shift, and say "make it more formal" or "fix the typos". Only the selection changes. With nothing selected, you can ask for a short draft.
5. When Superwhisper is the better choice
- You need to dictate offline, on a plane or on a locked-down network. Dropline needs an internet connection.
- You want your audio to stay on your computer. Superwhisper's local models run on-device. Dropline processes recordings in the cloud.
- You want to pay once. Superwhisper offers a lifetime licence.
- You want to choose your own models or write custom modes and prompts.
- You dictate on a phone or an Intel Mac, or speak a language outside Dropline's four.
- You want a finished Windows app. Dropline for Windows is a beta, Dictate only for now, with an installer that isn't signed yet.

Not in Dictate. It removes fillers, applies your corrections, fixes punctuation and misheard words, writes numbers as digits and lays text out for the app. Rewording is what Edit mode is for.
