An Aqua Voice alternative for Mac and Windows.

Aqua Voice gives new users 1,000 free words, then asks you to upgrade. If you'd like to dictate every day before deciding what to pay for, try Dropline. It's AI dictation for Mac and Windows, made by Fish Audio, and it's free during the Preview, with no word limits during the Preview.

1. Talk normally, get text you'd send

Hold the hotkey, say what you want to write, and let go. Dropline types the cleaned-up text at your cursor, in whatever app you're using.

You sayDropline types
"um, let's do tomorrow at three, no wait, four thirty"Let's do tomorrow at 4:30
"um I think we, uh, we should ship it"I think we should ship it
"send the deck to Maria, sorry, to Marta"Send the deck to Marta.

What happens along the way:

  • Fillers and stutters come out. Um, uh, you know, and repeated words.
  • Corrections are applied in place. "No wait" and "I mean" keep only your final choice.
  • Punctuation and numbers. Times, prices, percentages and counts are written as digits.
  • The right shape for the app. Short and relaxed in chat, punctuated in email, a numbered list in a document, a single line in a terminal.
  • Your words, not new ones. Dictate doesn't reword you. When it isn't sure, it leaves your words alone.

2. Try it in your browser

No download needed. This sample Dropline belongs to Maya, a product lead with a few hard-to-spell names in her dictionary. Type what you'd say, or hold the mic and say it.

Interactive demo: type or say a sentence, and see the text Dropline would type for Maya, with the names in her dictionary spelled her way.

Yeah, the Kestrel beta is still on for Friday. Joaquín is fixing the PostHog events, and Aoife wants one more pass on onboarding

Examples are stored results. Your own tries run live on Dropline. What you type here isn't saved.

3. Built to get names right

Dropline uses your personal dictionary, the names and terms visible on your screen, and a memory of what you've been working on recently. As you work, it learns the names and terms it keeps seeing on screen, so "Siobhan", "Nguyen" or "Project Kestrel" come out spelled the way your team spells them.

5. When Aqua Voice is the better choice

  • You dictate on your phone. Aqua has iOS and Android apps; Dropline is desktop only.
  • You need Cantonese or one of the other languages Aqua supports that Dropline doesn't.
  • Your company needs SSO, SCIM or central billing. Aqua's Business plan has them; Dropline has no team plan yet.
  • You want custom instructions for how your text is written. That's an Aqua Pro feature.
  • You have an Intel Mac, or want a finished Windows app. Dropline's Mac app needs Apple silicon, and Dropline for Windows is a beta, Dictate only for now, with an installer that isn't signed yet.

6. Getting started

  1. Download Dropline for your computer and sign in with a Fish Audio account.
  2. On a Mac, tap or hold the left Option key. On Windows, hold Ctrl + Win. A single tap starts hands-free mode; tap again to finish. Esc cancels.
  3. Talk. Your text appears where the cursor is.

You can change the shortcuts in Settings and add an alternate for each.
