1. How Dropline works
- Put the cursor where you want to type, in any app.
- Hold the hotkey and talk (left Option on a Mac, Ctrl + Win on Windows). Let go when you're done. Or tap once to talk hands-free and tap again to finish.
- Dropline types clean, ready-to-send text at the cursor.
What you say and what gets typed:
| You say | Dropline types |
|---|---|
| "um, let's do tomorrow at three, no wait, four thirty" | Let's do tomorrow at 4:30 |
| "um I think we, uh, we should ship it" | I think we should ship it |
| "the budget went up twenty percent" | The budget went up 20% |
Fillers and repeated words come out. When you change your mind ("no wait", "I mean"), Dropline keeps only what you settled on. Times, prices and percentages are written as digits. In Dictate, Dropline doesn't reword what you said.
2. What makes Dropline different
- Formatted for the app you're in. The same words come out relaxed in a chat, fully punctuated in an email, and as a numbered list in a document. In a terminal the text is always one line, so a stray Return never runs a command. In code editors only the fillers come out, and identifiers stay exactly as you said them.
- Names spelled your way. Add names and jargon to your dictionary. While you dictate, Dropline also checks the names and terms on your screen, and it learns the names and terms it keeps seeing there.
- Memory. Dropline remembers what you've been working on recently, so the names and terms you've used come out right the next time.
- Chinese and English in one sentence. Dropline writes English, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish, and English and Chinese can be mixed in the same sentence. It never translates: what you say in English stays in English.
- Edit by voice (Mac). Select text, press left Option + left Shift, and say what to change, such as "make it more polite". Only the selection is rewritten.

4. When Wispr Flow is the better choice
Be honest with yourself about what you need:
- You dictate on your phone. Wispr Flow has iOS and Android apps. Dropline is on Mac and Windows.
- You have an Intel Mac. Dropline's Mac app needs Apple silicon.
- You speak a language Dropline doesn't write yet. Flow covers 100+ languages; Dropline covers English, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish.
- Your team needs admin features. Flow sells team and enterprise plans with shared dictionaries and a meeting notetaker.
- You want a stable Windows release. Dropline for Windows is a beta, Dictate only for now, and its installer isn't signed yet.
5. Switching from Wispr Flow
There's nothing to migrate. Install Dropline, sign in with a Fish Audio account, and pick a hotkey. If your Flow hotkey is in muscle memory, you can change Dropline's shortcut in Settings. Add the names you use most to your dictionary, or just start dictating: Dropline also reads the names on your screen.
